Metaverse

The next generation of the internet has arrived. Whether the future settles on calling it the Interweb, Web 2.0 – 3.0, New Media, the Metaverse or something else entirely, we see it.

It is interactive on Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter …
It is in real-time via live chats, Skype, webcams …
It is mobile on Blackberries, iPhones, Droids, laptops …
It is in 3D, Google Earth, virtual worlds …
It is global.

In simple terms it’s real-time, interactive, 3-D environments with which you are able to see, speak and socialize with each other and interact with the environment collaboratively.

Roy Tanck‘s Flickr Widget requires Flash Player 9 or better.

For example, there are many live events and concerts to visit and many 3D areas to explore. As well as being social networks, virtual worlds have many opportunities for business and education.

By its nature, the definitions will shift – new technologies will emerge to further augment immersion, understanding and collaboration. =IcaruS= embraces it.
